Join the members of the North Carolina Busines Council as we host a summit led by Tom Ross, Former UNC President and co-chairman of the bi-partisan board of directors of North Carolinians for Redistricting Reform, to address the need for redistricting reform in North Carolina. Mr. Ross's presentation will include an update on the redistricting cases before the Supreme Court and other critical legal battles. He will also outline a plan-of-action for North Carolina to fairly draw Congressional and state districts.
Currently, members of the General Assembly draw lines for Congressional and state legislative districts in North Carolina. Over the years, this system has led to both parties abusing the process for political advantage. It has also led to heightened political division, expensive legal battles, and negative press about the state. Many other states have adopted independent systems of redistricting where politicians do not draw their own districts.
North Carolinians for Redistricting Reform is a bipartisan, non-profit organization that advocates for the adoption of clear, non-partisan standards for drawing Congressional and state legislative districts. The organization is comprised of business, political, and legal leaders throughout the state from both parties who agree that redistricting reform is needed in North Carolina.
The event is open to the public and is co-sponsored by the North Carolina Business Council and North Carolinians for Redistricting Reform. The Summit Luncheon will be held at Campbell University’s School of Law in downtown Raleigh on Friday, June 15th.
